Factchequeado is a non-partisan and non-profit collaborative initiative that tackles mis- and disinformation that affects Latino and Hispanic communities in the United States and closes the gap of fact-checked information in Spanish. We are the first fact-checking and media literacy organization in the United States focused on fighting collaboratively disinformation in Spanish that affects Latino communities. We reach 23 states and Puerto Rico.

We create quality journalism and offer accurate information and tools for Latino and Hispanic communities to empower them against disinformation in their native language. This is how we encourage informed decision-making and increase platforms’ accountability.

Through fact-checking, media literacy (trainings and resources), technology applied to journalism and collaboration with local media, community organizations, universities and research centers, we close the information gap and empower Spanish-speaking communities to navigate more effective media and digital surroundings. We encourage transparency, accountability, open data and a stronger public debate that strengthen democratic values.

Factchequeado is a successor to Maldita.es and Chequeado. Both organizations joined forces in 2021 to make use of their proven experience and close the information gap that affects 60 million people in Latino communities in the United States, who are particularly vulnerable to disinformation and bad information. Factchequeado is taking over a program that was from April 2022 to 2024 operated by this two organizations.
