Ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, Factchequeado is seeking to strengthen the connection between local Spanish-language media outlets and Latino communities across the United States. To that end, we are opening a call for applications to select 10 partner organizations that will receive $1,000 USD in funding to organize in-person community listening sessions focused on election information in the following states:
California
Texas
Florida
New York
Illinois
Arizona
Colorado
North Carolina
Georgia
Pennsylvania
These conversations will provide spaces to hear directly from Latino communities, understand their main questions and election information needs, and strengthen the relationship between audiences and local Spanish-language media outlets.
The sessions are part of a broader Factchequeado initiative funded by the Knight Foundation that connects local Spanish-language media outlets, Latino content creators, and communities to improve access to reliable, relevant election information tailored to the needs of Latino communities.
Who can participate?
Factchequeado partner organizations that work with Latino communities in any of the selected states and have an interest in or experience organizing in-person community activities are eligible to apply.
We are looking for organizations that can bring together members of their communities and facilitate open, inclusive, and useful conversations.
What types of activities are we looking to support?
Selected proposals will receive $1,000 USD in funding to organize one non-partisan community listening session designed to identify the main election information needs of the Latino community they serve.
Activities may take different forms, for example:
Community conversations about the main questions and election information needs of local audiences.
Gatherings bringing together journalists, community organizations, and local residents.
Workshops or educational sessions on how to access reliable election information.
Community meetings to identify issues relevant to local election coverage.
Other formats that foster direct conversations with potential Latino voters.
We are not looking for a fixed agenda or a specific format. We want to understand how you envision a space jointly organized by your organization and Factchequeado that makes sense for your community and allows us to hear directly about its main concerns.
What do we hope to achieve?
Through these sessions, we aim to:
Hear firsthand what election information Latino communities need.
Identify questions, concerns, and information barriers.
Understand which topics should receive greater attention in local election coverage and which formats resonate most with audiences.
Strengthen the relationship between local Spanish-language media outlets and their audiences.
Create opportunities for election coverage to better respond to the real needs of communities.
Support from Factchequeado
Selected organizations will receive support from Factchequeado throughout the planning process.
Factchequeado will assist with coordinating the sessions, help define objectives and expected learnings, and gather the main findings from these conversations to strengthen the election information work of the participating media network.
