Factchequeado has been selected as one of the 10 winning organizations of the "Spread the Facts" program by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), launched with support from Meta. This program aims to use artificial intelligence to combat mis- and disinformation on WhatsApp by optimizing fact-checkers' workflows.

As part of this initiative, Factchequeado received a $40,000 grant to enhance our Spanish-language chatbot to counteract migration-related mis- and disinformation, with a focus on scam prevention.

A key challenge is the growing use of AI-generated audio, where scammers employ "deepfake" technology to mimic government officials or celebrities as a new deception strategy.

Factchequeado will work with Botalite to optimize the WhatsApp chatbot, which will analyze content sent in by users by comparing the content to Factchequeado’s extensive database of migration-related fact-checks.

If no match is found, the chatbot will guide the user to a Q&A system with reliable information from official sources. Additionally, it will offer resources to develop critical media literacy skills. Factchequeado will also launch a campaign with the organization’s network of over 100 allies in 23 states to promote the chatbot in their communities.

With this support, Factchequeado strengthens its commitment to fight against mis- and disinformation. This dedication ensuresLatino and Hispanic communities are better informed and protected against migration scams.
