Factchequeado has been awarded the 2025 Trust Award, one of six recognitions granted by The Next Challenge for Media and Journalism, an initiative that supports innovative media organizations across the United States. The award honors projects that work to rebuild trust, promote transparency, and strengthen civic participation in historically underserved communities.
Selected from over 480 applicants nationwide, Factchequeado was recognized for its mission to empower Latino communities with verified, useful, and Spanish-language information. For us, this award is not just an achievement—it’s motivation to keep growing, innovating, and breaking down barriers to access to information.
"We believe that quality information in Spanish is a right, not a privilege. This award encourages us to continue developing solutions that reach more people by combining technology, active listening, and partnerships with media, community organizations, and content creators," said Laura Zommer, CEO of Factchequeado.
As part of the finalist cohort, Factchequeado received mentorship, organizational support tools, and personalized guidance throughout the process. The experience, led by Jeff Freeland Nelson and Gretchen Honnold from Glen Nelson Center at American Public Media, culminated in an award ceremony in Philadelphia, where Joy Mayer, Director of Trusting News, presented the 2025 Trust Award to Factchequeado.
What Will This Award Help Us Do?
Thanks to the Trust Award, Factchequeado will:
Expand its reach to more Latino communities in the U.S.
Strengthen its national network of allies
Train new trusted messengers on the ground
Continue enhancing a reliable, inclusive, and culturally relevant information ecosystem
This recognition would not have been possible without the trust and dedication of our partners, funders -since we have launched the pilot project in 2022-, and audience.
