In a context where 75% of Latino adults under 50 in the United States get their news from digital devices, with video platforms being the preferred choice for most, Factchequeado presents the first modular course in Spanish created especially for Latino content creators and influencers, reinforcing their essential role in accurately informing and building trust with their audiences. Approximately one in five Americans, including a much higher proportion of adults under 30 (37%), say they regularly get their news from influential people on social media.

According to the Pew Research Center (2024), 49% of Latino adults use TikTok and almost 86% use YouTube, making Latino influencers powerful voices for the community and key agents for quality digital communication.

The course, entitled “How to report accurately without getting ‘canceled’ along the way,” was developed by the Factchequeado team with the support of specialists and influencers such as Camila Valero, and addresses the challenges creators face in their day-to-day work: from how to choose what to share to how to correct information and protect their reputation in highly viral environments.

What does the course include?

  • Three modules aligned with each stage of the creative process:

  1. Before recording: Tools for identifying reliable sources and detecting red flags.

  2. During recording: Strategies for distinguishing facts from opinions and quoting correctly.

  3. After recording: Keys to correcting errors and dealing with criticism or fear of cancellation.

  • Materials for everyone: A complete PDF and visual presentation ready for self-study or for teaching in workshops.

  • Real-life impact cases: The course illustrates how good (or bad) information can affect everything from the economy on Wall Street to safety and trust in local communities.

"Latino creators are much more than just figures in the digital ecosystem: they are information references for thousands of people. This course helps them report responsibly without losing their essence or their community," says Olivia Rivarola, Social Media & Product Manager at Factchequeado.

This project was funded by the American Press Institute, which supports local and community media through research, programs, and products that foster the creation of healthy, responsive, and resilient news organizations.

The training is available to creators and organizations. For more information and access to the material, write to Olivia Rivarola, Social Media & Product Manager at Factchequeado, at [email protected] or contact us on our social media at @factchequeado.
