Factchequeado is launching a call for applications to select 12 media outlets and partner organizations serving Latino communities in the United States and Puerto Rico that are interested in strengthening their production capabilities and access to funding with artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Factchequeado's experience working over more than three years with Spanish-language media outlets in the United States shows that many newsrooms serving Latino communities are underfunded, overworked, and have very small teams, while also play a key role in providing information. Artificial intelligence, used responsibly, can help free up time from repetitive tasks, better organize workflows, and facilitate the development of grant applications. This program seeks precisely that: for AI to be a lever for these organizations to better serve Latino communities in the U.S. and have more time to listen to their audiences and respond to their specific information needs.

This initiative is part of the “Embracing AI for Good in Latino Communities” project, supported by the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, which seeks to reduce the digital and information divide affecting Latino communities through the responsible use of AI.

What does the program offer?

The 12 selected organizations will receive 6 months of training in adopting AI into their internal culture, along with tools that address some of their key challenges. Each media outlet will be matched with a tool or set of tools and support, including the following options:

Direct technology transfer from Chequeado and Maldita, founding organizations of Factchequeado and leaders in innovation and verification

  • Chequeado will share its Desgrabador Pro to streamline transcription and its AI Assistant to streamline editorial workflows, with features such as creating carousels, X threads, and video scripts, among others.

  • Maldita will make available the SocialScript AI and Search your Archive tools to leverage archives and optimize content production for social networks and channels such as WhatsApp.

Access to a new Factchequeado assistant to improve grant applications and increase their chances of securing funding

  • A Grant Acquisition Assistant built using AI developed by Factchequeado specifically for Spanish-language media, which will support the identification, drafting, and preparation of applications for funding.

$3,000 in funding per organization

  • To support the adoption of AI tools and the implementation of improvements in internal processes.

  • The funding also covers mandatory participation in the program's virtual workshops.

Support for 6 months in 2026

  • Training sessions with experts and mentoring to develop or update internal policies on the ethical use of AI and to integrate these tools into everyday workflows.
