Factchequeado received support from the NYC Media Lab to begin utilizing the Chequeabot technology in the fight against Spanish-language misinformation in the United States. Chequeabot is an artificial intelligence platform developed by Chequeado in 2018 that automates part of the fact-checking process, enabling faster responses to the community without compromising quality.
To amplify its impact, Factchequeado has built collaborative partnerships with small and large media outlets across the country to identify and combat Spanish-language misinformation. However, misinformation spreads much faster than fact-checking, and most technological advancements aimed at streamlining this process have been designed for English-speaking communities.
In this context, the $7,500 grant will enable Factchequeado to further develop the Chequeabot technology and share it with other Spanish-speaking media outlets and allied organizations in the United States. This will contribute to faster detection of circulating misinformation, allowing newsrooms to use their time more efficiently.
Chequeabot, the artificial intelligence robot developed by Chequeado, automates parts of the fact-checking process. Through this platform, it is possible to detect fact-checkable and previously fact-checked statements, identify misinformation, measure virality, and provide other functionalities.
