Factchequeado receives support from Knight Foundation to combat disinformation in Spanish in the US during the midterm elections

Factchequeado receives support from the Knight Foundation to combat disinformation in Latino communities in the context of the US midterm elections.

The USD 150,000 support will allow Factchequeado to develop a collaborative alliance with Latin media outlets - large and small - and fact-checking organizations; strengthen the organization's audiovisual team to experiment with innovative formats and deepen the reach and impact within Latin communities in the United States; and better understand the information needs of these communities firsthand.

Latin communities are informed in different ways and, therefore, are affected by a different disinformation environment than the rest of the US population. A Morning Consult survey reveals that WhatsApp usage by Spanish-speaking communities reaches 47%, while the American average is only 24%. It also shows that WhatsApp has encountered disinformation in Spanish designed to influence the Latin vote during the November 2020 elections.
n this regard, the Knight Foundation's support will help create a network to counteract disinformation - in the context of the 2022 midterm elections - that affects Latino communities living in the United States, which not only responds to their concerns but also does so using the platforms they use to stay informed and respecting their language and culture.
