As of October 2023, Factchequeado is a member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). This membership commits us to adhere to a Code of Principles, ensuring transparency in methodology, an open and honest correction policy, and impartiality. We underwent an application process, an evaluation carried out by an independent advisor and the favorable vote of the IFCN Advisory Council to validate our commitment against disinformation. Our co-founders are members of that Advisory Council and abstained from the Factchequeado vote due to their conflict of interest. Currently we are 112 certified organizations around the world.
What does this mean? The IFCN is dedicated to excellence in journalistic verification processes, ensuring global teams adhere to ethical principles guaranteeing the impartiality and professionalism of their fact-checks.
In the U.S., 15 entities have signed the Code: AP Fact Check, Check Your Fact, Univision Noticias' elDetector, FactCheck.org, MediaWise, The Washington Post Fact Checker, USA TODAY, Lead Stories, PolitiFact, Reuters, Snopes.com, T Verifica, The Dispatch Fact Check, The Weekly Standard Fact Check, and Factchequeado.
In addition, elDetector, PolitiFact and Factcheck.org have been allies of Factchequeado since 2022 in building a community to combat disinformation in Spanish in the United States, which today has nearly 60 media outlets and allied organizations.
