All 36 million of Latino eligible voters will be crucial to determine the result of the 2024 presidential elections, but what issues matter most to them? In other words: What will Latino voters be thinking when they decide which candidate to support in November? According to surveys reviewed in Factchequeado, the 4 topics that concern them the most are inflation, jobs and economy, health care and firearms.

According to a survey of UnidosUS, inflation and the rising cost of living are the most important issues for over half of Latinos and Latinas. Specifically, they complain about the rising prices of food, rent or gasoline. The second topic that concerns them the most is jobs and the economy, a priority for 44% of participants. Although unemployment among Hispanics/Latinos is at 4.5%, the lowest number since February 2020, 58% claim that salaries are low or they need to take a second job to make ends meet.

The third priority for Latinos and Latinas is health, which concerns 1 out of 3. 66% specified the cost of health insurance in particular, like monthly premiums, deductibles or co-pays, and over half of them is also worried about the cost of medication. Besides, another 29% prioritizes crime and firearms, with the vast majority claiming that guns and rifles are way too easy to get.

In some states, certain concerns are more noticeable. For example, housing costs are a priority, especially for Latinos and Latinas living in California, Arizona and Nevada. In Georgia, as seen in a survey conducted by GALEO, a Factchequeado's ally, Latino voters consider protecting immigrants more important than in other states.

Immigration policies are less important than in other elections and the majority opposes abortion bans

Immigration policies represent a priority for only 1 of every 5 Latinos and Latinas, according to this survey by UnidosUS. Among them, their main concerns are, on different levels, a path to citizenship for immigrants brought to the U.S. as children or undocumented immigrants that have resided in the U.S. for a long time.

On abortion rights, which is only a priority for 11% of the Latino community, 71% oppose abortion bans, according to the same survey. Even in states where legal abortions have less support among Latino voters (Arizona and Florida), 65% agree that it should be legal. 75% of Hispanos/Latinos who consider themselves Catholics are also in favor of its legalization

Climate change is a priority for 10% of Latino voters, and only 6% claim it is not real, although 1 in 3 believes that it is not an emergency or there is nothing that can be done to stop it. At Factchequeado, we’ve already explained why climate change is real and the role that us humans play in global warming.
